Are Louis and Lestat in an exclusive romantic relationship on the books? Show!stat likes 'variety' and the way I took it is as an open relationship, like they go out and have their fun, but the romantic attachment is exclusive and just the two of them, instead of a polyamorous relationship that has love among multiple people... Anyway, I'm asking because I'm trying to understand show!stat better lol. I don't think the show has been clear about it, but maybe they want us to be confused? That's their goal? Because I believe Lestat only goes to Antoinette after he gets the impression Louis is slipping away. And that he takes Louis' shame in vampirism as shame in being with him too? So I get him trying to find a distraction or whatever. But I struggle with understanding this, not because he's 'with' two partners, because I believe all relationship configurations are valid and well, if they live forever, maybe they need a more diverse sex life than us and sex doesn't equal love lol. But even in his 'non-exclusivity', Lestat is still... Exclusive? Like, he just seems to go to Antoinette. But he also doesn't seem to really care about her either, like, I know we only got Louis' POV and not his, but he let her lose a finger and kicked her out of her own home to have sex with Louis? If he was sleeping around it would've made more sense to me, like, yes, he needs diverse partners, scenarios, kinks etc to entertain his sex life. But this feels like having a side piece only because Louis is distant, but being ready to drop her as soon he feels like there isn't an obstacle anymore. Like, if Louis embraces vampirism, finds some peace with his existential crisis an grief and gets to a good, comfortable place in his life, maybe they can be fully together now. And if/when that happens, I'm not sure if Lestat would need more? Anyway, this makes me so confused, because he has this aura of an extroverted, social, sexy, life of the party etc kind of guy that you'd stereotype and associate with being eternally single, sleeping around etc. But he also took so long to try again after what happened between him and Nicky, then he was fell in love with Louis and stayed in NOLA because of him, they familial and domestic life with Claudia for years and were genuinely happy before everything... There are parts of him that feel pretty traditional and simple too. So I'm like that Oprah "what's the truth?' meme lol. Anyway, thank you and sorry this got so long.

He loves Louis.

Their relationship is not the easiest. We have only seen an edited, distorted picture of it for now, we also know now that Louis (at least thinks) he made it awful for Lestat because he wanted to make Lestat suffer (as he was suffering).

Vampires have (what I call) feeding flings. What Louis does in SF. Fuck and kill. What Lestat obviously does, too, bc Louis expects Antoinette to burn when he comes back.

The problem is that she doesn’t. Because she’s more than a fling. She is a symptom of their problems. In the book Antoine later tells us (yes, in the book Antoine survives) that Lestat came to him to talk about what moved him, which he felt he couldn’t at home, because he felt he would be ridiculed. Lestat in the show alludes to that when he rants about Claudia in Antoinette‘s bed (in the hotel). Antoinette was a retreat.

As such she is both less and more than an affair, something that is made clear by her getting turned later. We are led to believe he only turned her out of convenience, but Lestat always only turns people from or for love.

The edited tale tries to play up the cheating and jealousy aspect, but that is not (all) there is to it. Louis‘ and Lestat‘s main problem came imho, when Louis stopped feeding properly and stopped biting Lestat - the vicious circle that came with the lack of intimacy and bridging of the maker/fledgling barrier.

So the truth… the truth is it’s not as simple as we are led to believe. In their good times Louis had no problems inviting prey into his brothel to (fuck and) kill. Or the soldiers in s1. Louis did not even comment on them being in their bedroom :).

I think I would put it: they’re as monogamous as vampires can be?^^

Sleepover Meme! Choose between 2 things: Rue Royale Era or Court Era Loustat!

Omg this is so difficult 😭😭 They're both so dear to me for different reasons and I treasure them both lmao.

With Rue Royale era, I love how they have their little family and although things don't always work out (🫣) they did try in the beginning and when it goes right, it's really sweet and very endearing to me! And as well, Louis and Lestat are having to learn how to be fathers together to this vampire child, while being the Furthest Thing From Normal about each other. They both need each other, they love each other but they're Weird about it, all while Lestat's aiming for perfection with his family and controlling about it and Louis' being controlled and Repressed. It's all a bit of a mess but I love it so much and I'm trying not to yap for days lmao 😭

And then there's Court era, where they're finally at a point in their relationship where they can be comfortable around each other. Like, Louis and Lestat finally discovered communication and the art of actually talking to each other instead of just dancing around each other awkwardly 😭 And they're just generally in a better place; they've had time to get over some of their Weirdness and grow and I think that's beautiful 🥹 Sure, Louis and Lestat will always be Louis and Lestat, they'll always have their Moments, it wouldn't be them if they didn't but they've come so far and gotten over so many hurdles that I almost feel as though they deserve any Loustat-iness as a treat lmfao.

But because I have to choose between these two eras, I think I'd have to go with Rue Royale era. Just because without it, Loustat wouldn't have gotten their ending, they had to go through all That at the beginning to get to where they are by the end. They had to do all the crazy stuff first, with all their hardships so they could learn from it and grow, which they did eventually and we can't have the nice stuff at the end without the insane stuff at the start. Also I am pretty bias towards RR era, it will always have a special place in my heart 🥹

(edit: getting tested is also important, but not the kind of thing that can be visually flagged by armand after a viewing)

Rewatched 1994 Interview with the Vampire last night, cuz Halloween, and kept thinking about that running meme of Louis de Point du Lac is the Helen of Troy of the Vampire Chronicles Universe because I had forgotten (GASP) how beautiful/gorgeous/baby girl Brad Pitt's Louis was.

I mean come on! Him in a sewer with rats with his hair wet? Damn right Lestat gave him a daughter right after. Covered in dirt and soot after being locked in a coffin and seeing Claudia's carbonized body crumble? Damn straight Armand kept his mouth shut on what the pretty boy was planning to just have a chance. Sometimes his hair would just fall a certain way?

Jacob Anderson? Don't get me started on his Louis. We all KNOW how beautiful that man can be. Multiple gifsets abound, I don't need to rehash how beautiful he looked in the Mardi Gras Party or just sitting in the streetcar, or how he'd get that soft look on his face?

30 years on the casting departments were all still in agreement. God damn.

Three ships I like: I like so many. But a few recent ones I've liked enough to write for myself include Dean/Castiel (Supernatural), Kara/Lee (Battlestar Galactica), and Holmes/Watson (Arthur Conan Doyle). And honorable mentions to Vimes/Vetinari -- which I like so well that I keep intimidating myself out of writing it, lol -- and Peter Wimsey/Harriet Vane, they are too smart for me :)

First ship ever: I suppose that depends on what you mean by 'ship.' If you mean the first canonically romantic relationship that I loved and got invested in, it might have been Peaceable Drummond Sherwood/Barbara Grahame (The Sherwood Ring), or Jane Eyre/Mr. Rochester, or David Addison/Maddie Hayes (Moonlighting). All those I encountered quite early in life; they got in on the ground floor with me, one might say. If you mean the first slash relationship I ever read, then it was Louis/Lestat (and Armand/Marius) from The Vampire Chronicles. And -- like many in fandom I suspect -- there were fictional relationships I treasured and/or was fascinated by in the source material but didn't learn to ship until much later, like Holmes/Watson or Valjean/Javert. There are still other beloved duos from my childhood and teenage years that I absolutely see the slashiness of, but still prefer to imagine as the most devoted of friends, like Illya & Napoleon (Man From UNCLE) or the Star Trek triumvirate. The heart is a funny thing and unpredictable as to where it yearns for romance versus where it says: you know what, I actually just want the most beautiful camaraderie forever, no kisses needed.

Last song I listened to: It was Come On Get Higher by Matt Nathanson. There's something about the rhythm of the chorus I find so catchy. Also, it's such an Endverse!Cas song, it makes me think of Hth's funny, sharp, haunting, bittersweet (but with more sweetness after all in the end) fic: And Watch What Happens.

Favorite childhood book: The first book I remember passionately declaring as my favorite was Wait Till Helen Comes, the coming-of-age ghost story by Mary Downing Hahn (I would have been in about 3rd grade at the time). Very atypical of me, I must say, as I've never been a horror fan, but I suppose ghost stories are about as tame as horror gets. Some childhood books I still consider favorites today include the Mary Poppins books by PL Travers, Jane Eyre, the Sherlock Holmes stories, the Lord of the Rings trilogy, the Timothy Zahn Thrawn Trilogy (Star Wars), some of Dave Barry's humor anthologies, Pride and Prejudice, and Les Miserables. Those were some of the big ones I remember reading before I started high school.

Currently reading: Not a blessed thing at the moment, although I have a collection of James Thurber essays, the history of a 1940s coast guard rescue mission, and a massive overview of the Reconstruction/Gilded Age period checked out from the library. Will they be read before they need to be returned? Only time will tell.

Currently watching: The first season of Foyle's War. Unfortunately, I have finished the season and not fallen in love with it, despite everyone I know having loved it. I think...I'm just not that captivated by mysteries in general, and I need a little more eccentricity in my detectives in order to have a really good time? Not to knock the performances -- especially the lead, Michael Kitchen, who is understated and excellent in the role. But I miss Wimsey's patter and Holmes's flair for the dramatic :)

Currently craving: So, I am pre-diabetic and my son's doctor has recently informed us he is insulin-resistant, so we are doing our best to cut down on carbs and especially sugars around the house. I've been working on this for years, and actually have lost about 70 pounds over the last five years due to changes in diet, a routine of walking, and metformin (a blood-sugar control prescription). But over the last six months I've been taking care of my dad, and I've spent a lot of time taking him out to eat or to fast food places, and let us say I am wavering on my path to wellness, LOL. I need to recommit to more things like vegetables, but what I tend to crave most is the convenience of grabbing something warm and tasty from a restaurant. I'm working on it :)

Thankfully, there are some nice somewhat-healthier alternatives to old-fashioned desserts that we can stock our shelves with here to snack on. There's a "carb balance" pita that's delicious with guacamole or hummus. There's a keto-friendly mint-chocolate ice cream bar that's low carb and still delicious, and little coconut-chocolate cookies that are low-sugar with a bit of fiber and protein built in. So, I think I'll have one now with a cup of my favorite french vanilla black decaf tea & remind myself that eating healthier still leaves plenty of room for all kinds of things I genuinely delight in :)

Currently consuming: I am heating the tea water!

Pets: None. My dad had a dog that I was caring for, but she was elderly and passed away several months ago. I've never had any pets as an adult. When I was a kid, my mom gave us hamsters and eventually a giant passel of chihuahuas.

IWTV Musings - LDPDL & Nosferatu 2024 (Pt10b: Bloody Appetites)

IMO the IWTV/TVC fandom underestimates how dang BLOODY vampire sex can be. In Anne Rice's books, drinking blood is the most intensely intimate & erotic act vampires can perform. But there's a real disparity between TVC/IWTV show-onlies, and fans expecting more gothic horror themes & tropes in the show and/or fics--inc. the inherently erotic nature of a vampire's bite both in AND out of sexual acts. And watching Nosferatu 2024 only confirmed for me that AMC's IWTV & its fandom really sanitizes vampire biology.

Bloody Bodily Fluids

Anne Rice's vampires are like ticks, bloated with blood--they cry, spit, sweat blood, and if AR's vamps could've had sex in the books, yes their nightly emissions would be bloody too. But AMC dances around it, and the show-only fans have no idea cuz the show's too PG about gay sex.

Like, people laugh at Lestat earning his red wings by drinking period blood in Memnoch (as if that's something a vampire wouldn't do--let alone the wildest thing Lestat has done, which, chile....)

I've seen polls ask whether or not all a vampire's bodily fluids are bloody, and what kinds of blood they drink, and the results are always fascinating (x x x x x x x x x x x)

And let's not forget the TikTok meme

I've read 1000+ IWTV/TVC fics, but can barely list on 2 hands the fics that made a point to emphasize bloody bodily fluids (sweat/saliva/ejaculate/etc)

There's even tags for Blood Kink and Blood as Lube in Rated M-E fics, as if BLOOD is a warning the VAMPIRE fandom needs, and is not something natural to The Nature of being a bloodsucking vampire having sex (which tends to involve a copious exchange of bodily fluids)

And it's not just sex this show/fandom's oddly squeamish about. AMC!IWTV frustratingly censored/obfuscated/ignored/outright effed up important parts of AR's vamp biology. Setting aside the ridiculous amount of alcohol & cigarettes & whatnot we see them with, I've said before how I don't like Louis' bodily death in 1x2, cuz AMC ignored how AR's vamps expel ALL their bodily fluids & waste--poop & pee included. It's a literal MESS, and the scene made no frikkin sense; they just skipped right over it; Lou pukes a bit and he's fine??? As if.

Cuz for AR, the birth of a vampire resembles the birth of a child. Ask anyone who's given birth before: if you didn't handle your business beforehand, you'll piss & crap the delivery bed with all that pushing; it's NOT always clean & pristine like they show on tv. 😅

But wtvr. It just really bothers me how vampires are physically humanized/sanitized way too much in this show/fandom.

Blood is Life: "You Made Your Maker"

In Nos2024, appetite & love & psycho-sexual obsession & hate & life & death are all rolled into one; where Ellen's never been happier holding hands with Death--Orllen literally f**k e/o to death. Their marriage bed is a slaughter--the sheets are SOAKED in a puddle.

Sure, we can assume that's all Ellen's blood Orlok cried & puked up as he died--he's shriveled & empty without her blood. BUT! It also looks like Ellen had a fatal hemorrhage--like childbirth/miscarriage/stillbirth. Even the way Ellen cradles Orlok reminds me of a mother cradling a child--esp. with how much Orlok kept nursing from her boobs (& Thomas' pecs), like a breastfeeding child.

Instead of blood-drinking & bodily fluid swapping being a cyclical exchange that creates new "life" for the undead (Ellen becoming a vamp), Orllen both die--the mother and the child together; breaking the vampiric cycle.

With Loustat, the vampiric cycle plays out fully, with Lestat as the "father or further of a new order of beings," and Louis as Lestat's completely reborn vampire child/fledgling (also in Nosferatu 1979, with Jonathan Harker/Thomas Hutter--the 1992 Dracula has vamp Mina Harker, too; and League of Extraordinary Gentlemen goes the distance & keeps Mina a vamp).

And during sex, which is a bloody friggin mess where Louis' laying in a puddle of blood, covered in oozing love bites & bloody ejaculates, Lestat emerging from Louis' body would look like the blood-covered child LOUIS birthed. And that reminds me of a Loustat fic by @vulcanvampyr that uses kinda similar imagery:

Clearly, AMC!Loustat feeds off e/o, esp. during sex. They're bloody. BUT! Other than Loustat's Little Drink in 1x1, and Loumand's in 1x5, we only see vamps bite e/o during fights (the 1x5 fight & 1x6 hate sex). 😔 It was a cute nod to have Loustat banging on blood red sheets in 1x6, but IMO Lou shoulda been covered in love bites. 😩

As Louis' depression worsened, & he disassociated & distanced himself even more, you think Lestat WOULDN'T bite him to get that connection back? 🤨 Even Claudia bit Lou to get his attention in 1x7.

So I prefer how Nos24 portrayed vampiric sex. Orlok BITES, right over the heart. Sloppy & slovenly, slobbering like an animal (a wolf), he is Appetite--raw hunger, thirst, etc. Blood is a drug for him, esp. Ellen's blood, which turns him on to the point of distraction and the obliteration of all reason--he doesn't even care that the sun's coming and is about to roast him alive. He just keeps drinking Ellen's blood. Her BLOOD is his greatest weakness, not even the sun.

Even Ellen's scent (lilacs) has Orloc reeling like a dope fiend strung out on that black tar heroin.

I've always had doubts about Loumand's blood-drinking scene in 1x5, but IF Louis really was drinking Armand's blood (and not just faking it), they were literally banging in front of Daniel's salad. 🍆

TL;DR: MORE BLOOD, PLEASE 🙏

So yeah, for vampires, Blood IS their whole Life. And I'm just sad that we've lost so much of that in AMC's sanitized vampire fandom--the most we see of blood is when vamps are being violent & killing; rarely when when they're being loving, and it's a real shame, IMO.

Different anon, but I think it depends on the case. Some people really feel the need the assign feminine and masculine roles to them, who is the husband, wife, mother, father etc and I do think that's problematic. I also see some people calling their relationship patriarchal and I still don't get the thought process? But calling characters mother or babygirl, for example, those are technically feminine terms, but people use it in a neutral way and as a meme. It doesn't necessarily mean treating them as women. Also, gender is a spectrum and it doesn't always match people's ideas of how someone looks, dresses, behaves etc. I think vampires are all above these stereotypes, they live forever, gender roles change over time and they'll embrace and reject some of it based on how they feel. They'll never fully reproduce entirely masculine/feminine traits, but it will vary according to the moment. And maybe some would indeed identify as trans, something under the non-binary umbrella or just overall refuse labels. I see Lestat as an androgynous man, or an androgynous person, I don't see him as someone who really cares about labels, I think he just is. But he would probably admit he's mostly masc-aligned and yet has some strong feminine interests/traits too? Anyway, people has different takes on it, including queer people. I believe it's okay if people make HCs to feel better, because representation sucks, so if that warms their heart in a way, be it. I'm gender-fluid and personally don't think it makes a difference unless the character is really coded that way (like, apparently Gabrielle is, but they don't use any labels?), and I see Lestat mostly as an androgynous/gender nonconforming/fluid/fuck the rules I'll do what I want and I love defying the norms kind of dude, but a woman is unrealistic to me. But we know HCs aren't actual canon either, I guess. /lh /nm

Headcanons are totally fine and valid, and it is also just natural that we being our own experiences to the cases, and that we want to see ourselves reflected, too.

I just find the need for shoving them into boxes and then hating on whoever doesn’t align with those boxes a bit ludicrous.

I started up Interview With the Vampire because y'all have been getting to me with the memes, and then my good bitch @sandushengshou informed me that the first season was up on Netflix. Which, you know, I could pirate it but I'm lazy! And I can leech off roommate's account, so having easy access I don't have to download and put on a flash drive that I stick in my tv is good bonus motivation.

Well I'm only like 20 minutes in and it's already totally engaging. I never read the books but I did see the films. Loved the Tom Cruise one, but thought Brad Pitt's acting was wooden, terrible boring bland. It was sad, because everyone else in that movie was pretty delightful. Tom Cruise and Kirsten Dunsten were fantastic! And then there was Brad Pitt. I read once that Cher was almost cast as Louis, and well, Cher's a much better actor than Brad Pitt, I'd have been there for it.

BUT! Jacob Anderson is great so far and interesting and lively and not like some guy reciting lines! And we've just met Lestat, who I know the fandom has enjoyed, and he's been fun so far. I'm read for this to be a rolicking good time.

I spent the whole day in World of Warcraft: The War Within and my Arcane Mage is level 73. I figured it was enough for one day, lol, I don't need to burn through the content. It's really fun to play on release weekend though! I've never done that! Back when I first started playing it was like, people camping out at Gamestop at Midnight to buy it. The game is sooooo different and yet the same in all the right ways.

One of the reasons I dipped out around Legion was that they were talking about cutting back on flying/phasing out flying in future expansions, or that was the rumor, and I thought that was fucking shitty, but now I'm back after several years and lol. yeah, not only have they not phased it out, they've gone harder on it, and getting to fly immediately and not when I reach max level in the expansion is certainly a change philosophy. I wonder if other players hated it the talk of moving away from flying as much as I do. I never bought the alleged idea that "if you're on a flying mount you're not appreciating all this beautiful scenery we coded" because we still spend a large amount of our time on the ground doing stuff.

I'm still obsessing over the WoW version of Pokemon. Up to 1086 battle pets, and somehow keep slipping on my server standing even though I've moved up about 5k spots on the site ranking. Proudmoore has always been a super competitive Pokemon server. BACK IN THE DAY, I was like #7 on the server. I actually had someone on tumblr back when I very first joined be all "YOU! YOU HAVE BEEN MY ARCHNEMESIS ON WARCRAFT PETS! YOU KEEP PASSING ME, I KEEP PASSING YOU!" It was validating lol.

Daniel's perfect evening (IMO for the sake of this exercise): Daniel wakes up and Armand is still in bed with him. He waited for him to be released from the death sleep so Daniel could wake up in his arms and he loves that. Of course, Armand doesn't linger. They have things to do!

Daniel takes an unnecessary shower and brushes his teeth, mortal habits he'd never let go of and no one has discouraged him from losing. The only time he's ever eschewed these things when he was in the thick of madness, so everyone reckons it's probably not a bad idea to just let him do them. Plus, Armand likes the little bits of humanity Daniel has clung to and hopes he always will.

Armand has put out clothes for him so Daniel gets dressed and then goes downstairs, where Armand is impatiently waiting. In the car as they ride to whatever party/show/event Armand is so eager to get to, Daniel sees a meme that he thinks Marius will appreciate about classical art or something about Rome and he texts it to him. Marius texts back "Laughing, you are so funny." And then asks when he's coming back to Court. Daniel tells him soon, Lestat has been on Armand about it, too (not literally but maybe also literally). Armand does not appreciate that joke.

They hunt before this event because they want to look human, so Daniel lets Armand take the led and find them victims. Armand takes the lead in disposing of the victims, too, and although Daniel helps, he appreciates not having to think about it too hard. He does it all the time, but it's his least favorite part of this whole vampire gig. The bodies still wig him out a little and he'd rather avoid it if possible. This is part of why he likes the little drink so much. Less hassle and mess.

Whatever the event is doesn't matter, because Daniel enjoys watching Armand captivate people. Of course he enjoys talking to strangers about their lives and hearing their stories, but when he glances over and sees Armand laughing or talking animatedly, it makes his heart soar.

When they get home, Benji is playing some video game and Daniel hangs out watching for a bit while Armand goes to the music room and plays a few duets with Sybelle. But as it creeps toward sunrise, Armand ushers the kids to bed, and then takes Daniel to his room--their room? he still calls it Armand's room--and they kiss and get undressed for bed. Daniel mentions going back to Court because Marius seems eager to see them and Armand agrees they should probably head there soon.

And then they do things that we will fade to black on tumblr for but you can probably imagine, just sweet intimacy, some of it somewhat sexual because that's often their habit, or maybe just kissing and touching until Daniel is too groggy and they fall asleep together in Armand's massive bed with his million count cotton sheets. FIN.

Sales Pitch for Daniel Molloy: Daniel is a guy who sought truth and meaning in the stories of other people until he learned of the supernatural. He has a desperate need to know things, to learn things, to see the world and experience everything. His desire to be a vampire stemmed from his need to not to miss out on experiences and the progress of the world, and he because he wanted to spend forever with the love of his life (Armand). He's sardonic, funny, affable, and he believes absolutely in the love vampires are capable of. He's just a cool guy who knows what he's about.
